First U.S. Bisexual Pride Day Held In 1990

The City of San Francisco, CA proclaimed June 23rd, 1990 as Bisexual Pride Day in San Francisco

From the archives:
The 1st ever U.S. Bisexual Pride Day proclamation!

Originally, Bisexual Pride Day was held on June 23rd, 1990 and coincided with the 1990 National Bisexual Conference.

The current incarnation of Bisexual Pride Day also known as Celebrate Bisexuality Day and/or Bi Visibility Day has been celebrated on September 23rd every year since 1999.

Check your copy of Bi Any Other Name for a brief history of the 1990 Conference that will give you a background on the conference and the movement at that time. For additional historic events from the 1960’s onwards also check out this Bi History link.

Tell us, what are your plans this Bisexual Pride Day? Post plans from your community in the comments below and we’ll be sure to publicize them as much as we can!

 1. Thanks for documenting our history. Initially CBD was designed to complement Bi Pride day.

Pride tends to be something outward – showing others how proud.. how unashamed we are

CBD was originally meant to be an internal event. A coming together of our community to celebrate our lives.

The days have since merged. I'm just glad this has continued

2. What a brilliant find from the archives! Just linked here for a bit of historical reference :)
